This lecture will focus on the basics including the anatomy of the tongue, its innervation, and the blood supply. We will look at the classification of tongue and lip ties. We will also discuss the different treatment options and when treatment should be done.
We will then look at different clinical signs that present in the case of tethered oral tissues which can easily be missed or overlooked. The aim of the lecture is to enlighten all attendees about the role each of us plays in identifying restrictive oral tissue from a very young age. This is to prevent future oral diseases and problems.
Dr Coené Bezuidenhout completed her degree at the University of Pretoria in 2012 with distinction. She has always had a special interest in Endodontics as well as Paedodontics and thus completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontics under the guiding hand of Prof Peet van der Vyver in 2016.
Looking at the cause behind problems has always been her passion. She then went on to complete her Mastership in Laser Dentistry through RTWH Aarchen University under the watchful eye of Prof N Gutknecht in 2020.
She has been in Private Practice for 7 years now and currently working at Smile Lab Centurion as well as Wiggly Teeth in Pretoria, and is very passionate about breastfeeding and treating oral disease at the source, which is often at infancy.
